I have been working in Landscape design for over twenty years and a student of Horticulture for more than 30.
I love plants and I love designing gardens and landscapes.
In 1989 I spent a year at RHS Wisley Gardens in England on a work study program. During that time I had the good fortune to meet and visit with many memorable gardens and their owners. The learning was immeasurable and I have, in my own way, translated the fundamentals of that learning into a deeper understanding of what makes a garden or landscape great.
A garden has to be a place of beauty and it must also meet other criteria. It must enhance and enliven the architecture as well as the surrounding landscape.
It has to be sustainable. Thriving and flourishing within the parameters of the location and soil conditions.
At the end of the day it is hopefully a place to feel replenished. Where the balance of caring and maintaining the garden are in step with the rewards it provides.
This is the process of the designer / client relationship and the key to any successful endeavor.
